Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Extremely well maintained and marked trails- thanks RMC! Cook path sign at the end of the vestibule on the ice gulch trail/cook path intersection is on a fallen tree on the ground; No sign for the Peboamauk Loop on the east side of the Ice Gulch Trail (but there was a sign for the Ice Gulch trail at the intersection)
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None seen
Bugs
Bugs: Awful and unrelenting flies in the Ice Gulch. Must be the cooler temps in the ravine as they started at the west intersection of the Peboamauk Loop and harassed us until a mile or so down the Cook Path out the other side!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Lost blood to the flies!

Comments
Comments: Nice hot day for a trip to the cool Ice Gulch. Noticeable 20 degree drop in temps in the gulch from Peboamauk Falls to the vestibule. Flies were atrocious in the gulch making what was a beautiful hike in a very wild place a bit less pleasurable. We did the Ice Gulch trail counterclockwise. Fun was had scrambling on the rocks, but they were quite slippery with the mix of cold air and hot humid air in the gulch making footing difficult at times. True to the name, there is still ice under the boulders even on a 90 degree day. Peboamauk Loop is a moderately more difficult trail than staying on the Ice Gulch trail for that particular section, but is way more scenic with the large falls, a small cascade further up, and steaming water from the temp difference. Lots of moose poo on the Cook Path around the shoulder of Mt. Crescent and moose tracks on the Ice Gulch trail in the meadows about .3 in from the east Peboamauk Loop intersection. Redlined a few trails and avoided a road walk to start the day & the Mountain Goat & I ran back down and up the trail to pick up the missed section on the concurrent section with the Peboamauk Loop while Catamount rested. We saw 1 person on the Jimtown logging road (thanks for the directions as I got mixed up out of the parking lot!) & 1 person on Pasture Path, then no one for the rest of the day!
