Peaks North Tripyramid, Middle Tripyramid, South Tripyramid, NH
Trails
Trails: Livermore Trail, Mt. Tripyramid Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, July 28, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: At 8 am, no issues finding a spot at the Waterville Valley trailhead for the Livermore Trail. Still several open parking spots when I got back shortly after 1 pm.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All easily rock hopped.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Besides the slight brushiness of the Mt. Tripyramid Trail within the wilderness zone (which is to be expected), no issues of note.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I wouldn't recommend taking a dog on either the North or South Slide, in either direction. The North Slide is extremely steep and scrambly with several "no-fall zones", and the South Slide is also steep with a lot of loose gravel and scree, which can make for some very frustrating footing.
Bugs
Bugs: Not bad when I started, but they were getting bad at the summits and on the hike down.
Lost and Found

Comments
Comments: The trails were mostly dry with some minor scattered patches of mud and wet trail. The bottom of the North Slide was still a little damp as well, but the rest of it was bone dry. The South Slide was almost a little too dry- the gravel and scree really loosened up and made for some tricky footing.

This was my first time hiking the Tripyramids via the North Slide (did them in 2013, but via the Scaur Ridge Trail), and the section of trail up the slide definitely packed a punch. 1,200 ft. of elevation gain in 0.5 mi is not something to be taken lightly. There were a few scrambles that were a little hairy, but the rest of the scrambling wasn't as bad, and IMO was kinda fun. Excellent views off the slide as well. I will say, though, that you'd better be in damn good physical shape and free of acrophobia if you attempt this...
