Trails
Trails: Mt. Prospect Auto Road, Around the Mountain Trail, Davidge Path, Old Carriage Path
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, July 26, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Lot could maybe squeeze 2 dozen cars. Perhaps a little less. We were the tenth car at 9am. Less at 3pm. Another large lot across the street. If these ever filled up, then you could also park at the ski area parking and go from there. Only one car there around 2:30pm.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing but mostly dry, tiny, and some bridged streams along Around the Mountain Trail. This would be the type of hike you do after a flood
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Two blowdowns on Around the Mountain Trail. I forget where they are sorry. One is a walk around that’s sort of large but not really difficult. The other is a stretch over if you’re tall enough and a throw your pack over and crawl under if you’re shorter. This one was a pain. It’s alrwdy been trimmed and it looked like a chainsaw was unsuccessfully taken to it. All trails other than the auto road are in need of brushing. This would have been a great day to do some quick work with clippers; so mad I didn’t think to bring them!! Also, there’s some mud pits on Around the Mountain Trail. It would be nice to see something done about even if it’s just the placement of rocks.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one small dog going for a little walk. Not any water but otherwise I’d think it a fine trail for well behaved dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Only a few biting (mosquitos) but otherwise just lots in your face. All the trails around the auto road are overgrown and need brushing and thus are a tick haven. I recommend dousing your clothes in DEET or treating your clothes with Permithrin (toxic and you do not want this on your skin). We were very surprised to not find any ticks. .
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: Very nice summit area and the auto road is an easy walk. The other trails in the area are unfortunately not that pleasant as they are overgrown and not well travelled. They could use some love. See trail maintenance comments above please. Only mud was on Around the Mountain Trail. Some mud was drying nicely, but there was still some spots that you wanted to avoid butt couldn’t easily.
