 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
This non-AT stretch of the Mahoosuc Trail is in rough shape. Decent up to Mascot Pond Spur, then a series of crowns down in the trail, large step-overs, and a hanging walk-under to deal with. Plenty of leaf cover lower down, and some well worn herd paths around some of the blowdowns, leads me to believe this trail hasn't received maintenance in a while. Very muddy in the middle section. Clear up to the Centennial Trail junction from the ledges. |

 | Bugs: |
Awful, black flies and mosquitoes in the woods, horseflies bothersome on the ledges. |

 | Comments: |
A mid/late afternoon ramble up to Mt. Hayes (Haze). The detour from the bridge was well marked, taking you on ATV trails for the most part, out to Hogan Road alongside the hydro canal. Very hot heading up, and very hazy views out to the Carter/Moriah and Presidential ranges from the ledges. Saw a family of three on the way up, and they picked a good spot on the ledges to settle in for the fireworks display in the valley. Bear tracks in the mud above the ledges, which we warned the family about on the way down, thankfully they were all set to hang their food. |
