Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The only water issues of note on this leg of our trip, were on Isolation West, where several washouts put you in the brook at times. The crossing at the bottom of Iso West was an easy hop on damp rocks.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Quite good in the early going, with no issues on Direttissima, Glen Boulder, or Davis, some muddy areas below treeline on Davis. Between Iso West and Iso East on Davis was fairly brushy and muddy in spots. VERY muddy along much of Davis toward the Isolation Spur. Met the volunteer maintainer just shy of the spur, and he was out for a maintaining cruise, so that grown in area should be taken care of before the weekend. Isolation West was simply a mess. Very brushy (especially coming off the ridge), then the several washouts, quite a few large blowdowns, and many eroded sections down low. Some really pleasant sections thrown in as well, but overall, a mess.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Too windy above treeline for them, but they were vicious near Isolation, and whenever stopped below treeline. Black flies the primary culprit.

Comments
Comments: Day 1 of our trail maintenance backpack in to Dry River. Really great conditions for some time above treeline, only seeing a few people between Pinkham and treeline on Davis. Saw many people out on our way to Isolation, Monday was a popular day for it apparently! Ran into Yodi and Rocket, who I last saw in the Smokies on my AT thru-hike last year, so great to run into you two!!! Dropped down Isolation West and set up shop at the designated campsite just north of the junction with Dry River Trail. Bugs were horrendous, bug spray did nothing, smoke from our small fire did a little more than nothing, but not by much.
