Bugs
Bugs: Brutal mosquitos/black flies/deer flies before ledges. Last 1/4 mile to summit mosquitos are swarming. Outside tower black flies are brutal. Stiff wind would not drive them away. No amount of spray would keep them away.

Comments
Comments: Hot humid day some breezes. Trail in real good shape. Plan was overnight at tower but bugs had other plans. Absolutely the worst I have ever experienced. Kept reapplying Bens 100 but it was a losing battle. At the forest protection area sign above ledges the mosquitos were out & biting. Run the gauntlet to get above tree line. You stop & are immediately swarmed. No rest until safely inside tower. Tower was like a sauna...I was showing 98 inside. Go out for air swarmed by black flies. views were beautiful but after 1-1/2 hours fighting a losing battle packed up & made a run for the car. No relief from bugs until back below ledges but still no stopping. Couldn't even change in lot, swarming there. Disappointed not to see the sun set but even with the bugs, better than being at work! Bug net long sleeves & pants needed, but still not sure it would make a difference.
