Hike up Wildcat Ridge head wall very steep and icy, but terrific views of Presidentials from look outs. Walk along Wildcat Ridge OK, but needed to keep to packed snow at center of trail to avoid deep post-holing. Wildcat Ridge is a series of peaks and cols - Wildcat D has nice observation platform above top of Wildcat ski lift - Wildcat A peak is not clearly marked. Hike down Wildcat Ridge trail to Nineteen Mile Brook trail is very steep with deep angled snow across trail making snow-shoeing difficult and necessitating changing over to crampons. Deep snow throughout entire hike meant a lot of ducking under tree branches. Nineteen Mile Brook trail was an easy 3.2 miles to finish a very strenous 8.4 mile/8 hour hike. |
