In generally good shape, thanks to years of work by Mike S., who has since "retired" from this trail. The first 0.2 mi. could use some brushing. Blazing alternated between newer and older. Only one blowdown - a high leaner - which doesn't impede travel. The trail hasn't really been impacted by the SPNHF logging operation which took place over the winter. |

A stunning day on one of my favorite peaks. Chippewa is such an awesome route, although when it was laid out in the early 1930s, they didn't consider things like switchbacks. ;) I hadn't been up this way in a while and quickly got reacquainted with how steep it is. From the summit, I wandered down to Tipping Rock and the next ledge east of there, which is one of my favorite spots on the mountain. Some more wind would have been nice to counter the heat and bugs, but hey. The trail was mostly dry with some minor wet and muddy spots.
It was also nice to meet Kristin and her 82 year old dad who were making their first visit here. |
