Comments
Comments: My route was inspired by Section Hiker's report of their trip to Cape Horn. I went in on the logging road and followed it to it's end whereupon I headed in southerly direction to stay in best terrain below the talus fields. Terrain here varied from rough fern & moss covered rocks. Very fine mature hardwood forest. I hope unique character discourages logging like northeast slope. I started to climb the southern spine and quickly found myself in the Red Oak/Red Pine ledge forest also very fine. I didn't find any view ledges worth mentioning on south summit. I reached north summit and bottle. Bottle badly needs new register. I need to start carrying registers. I hung out on very nice view ledge on east side of summit. View of Hutchins Mountain and Pilot Range is very fine. I then went north on ridge keeping an eye out for opportunity to descend to east, but didn't look hard enough. I went too far northward and was forced to make a long arduous side hill traverse over talus terrain. In hindsight satellite photos reveal a logging road going right up the east ridge would have made for much easier descent. Oh well!!! All in all it was great day to be out. The weather was super nice and I greatly enjoyed scenic drive getting to Lost Nation Road.
