| Water Crossing Notes: |
All 5 crossings of the Rocky Branch were easily rock hopped in both directions. The first needed to be crossed about 25' further upstream. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I know there are Wildernesses standards to uphold but Rocky Branch and Isolation Tr could benefit from a hair cut. The bog bridges on Davis Path are nearly gone and the mud pits are getting bigger as hikers try to skirt the edges. There were only a few bigger blowdowns, the most notable just before the T tree at the HoL. This one fell inline with the trail causing a slight detour. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Overall easy hike for Marlie. Most trail dogs should be able to handle this route. Lots of water, mud, and nothing to technical to climb. |
|
| Bugs: |
Plenty for all. Fortunately a stiff breeze kept them under control. |

| Comments: |
Of all the different ways I've been to Isolation, I'm not sure why I chose this way again. Non stop rock hopping to avoid ankle deep mud or water. I do enjoy the route, following the river and making all of the crossings. At several spots there are rows of stepping stones and stairs along the trail. Kind of sad to see them disappearing into the mud or eroded away. Either way, another great walk in the woods with Marlie. Congrats to the guy (sorry I didn't catch your name) that played leap frog with us all day for completing his second round of the 48.
