Nice loop hike: starting with the AT, turning onto the Harris trail and following it to the access trail for the DOC Class of '66 Lodge. Nat Thompson trail begins just behind the lodge on the left. It climbs 1.1 miles to the AT; starts out somewhat steep then moderate then at the point where a cross country ski trail comes in from the right, it stays moderate to easy the rest of the way. At the junction with the AT, turned left and went about 75' to a slightly higher bump with a small cairn on top just off the trail to the left. After that, headed south on the AT to a great viewpoint with a sign for the South Peak. Continued the rest of the way south on the AT back to our car. |
