brushy as expected with more than a few sapling blowdowns. Only a few of the larger blowdowns merited crawling under on ascent. |

 | Bugs: |
Tons of mosquitoes and biting gnats but no black flies. We reapplied 6x (I counted). They weren't biting while atop the Howks, just a little annoying. Back in the canopy of trees however - yuck. Wish we'd have brought the bug net hats. |

Unfortunately one of our party was having a bad day with the heat, so we cut it short on Howk #3 before reaching the last and final Howk. While it pained me to miss the ascent on such a stunningly clear day, the views still beat that of our earlier planned destination and we got further than the last time on this trail. Third time's a charm they say. Humility is a virtue, they say. Failed attempts build character, they say. -Met up with probably a half dozen parties on this trail which is surprising given its wildness.
One minor snow field on the top of the Pink Line-Howker Ridge Trail concurrent 0.3 mi section but very doable in bareboots. Enough running/slightly dropping water at the top of Pink Line for us to refill and purify without having to head over to the stream on Pink Line after the break - that trail was not broken out and the start of it was still snow-covered. |
