Began on the Dickey Notch Trail at the Dickey Welch Parking lot. I began whack to Dickey ledges at height of land, past beaver flowage. Whacked to the Dickey Ledges and north towards the summit. Below summit whacked N. to Shattuck Brook and then to summit of Hogback out of range of black flies. Returned to the northern terminus of Dickey Notch Trail with FR 23 by following Shattuck Brook. Following the D-N Trail north was no easy amble. Lost trail several times, having to whack through open woods. Trail not well established on northern end with few blazes. I followed what I think was the old D-W trail (cairns and blazes) but could be a ski trail off Dickey. |
