Comments
Comments: The bugs were in full force from the moment I left my car at 8:30am. Immediately upon entering the forest I was met with a barrage of gnats, flies, mosquitoes and spiderwebs (with their occupants). Standing still for even a moment meant being eaten alive, and would have you to praying to every god you can name that Old Man Winter return quickly. I guess that was motivation enough to move quickly! The bugs were severe until passing Mt Surprise, and then, around 3k feet, are just moderately bad.

Otherwise, it was a lovely hike and a lovely trail: the blazes are vibrant and the cairns are well-set, that you couldn't possibly find your way off-trail unless you tried. I noticed no blowdowns, but there is a lot of mud from about 2k feet and up, some of it deceptively deep. The air quality seemed poor today, which led to rather hazy visibility from the summit, but still really nice.

Trip time: 4 hours, 6 minutes.
