 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at the Snows Mtn ski area lot as described in the guidebook. Plenty of parking. Not many others there given the time of day and season. Just an FYI that the speed limit past the turnoff to WV ski area is ALL 25mph. I got pulled over for doing 35. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The trail is blazed in yellow but very infrequently on the northern end of the loop. It’s also faded. Combine that with the fact that the trail isn’t too well travelled and is very overgrown and you’ve got a hard to follow trail. The blaze is much more frequent and obvious on the southern side and isn’t as overgrown making this half of the loop much easier to follow. I think most redliners or people who otherwise have trouble following herd paths or obscure trails won’t have an issue; I just kept my head down and looked for the most open spot on the northern end and I did just fine.
The trail really needs trimming. Not any big blowdowns though. Just some smaller stuff. Everything could be taken care of with a handsaw and clippers. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
I think the only concern would be the lack of water |

 | Bugs: |
They were absolutely atrocious. I thought that I could get by without spray and long sleeves since I was attempting to come as close as I could to trail running but a 2-3mph pace still didn’t cut it. And they were just black flies nonetheless (which normally you can outrun). A fast pace did make them bearable but I still felt them on me. When I stopped at the viewpoints they were absolutely unbelievable. I pity the fool who is a slow hiker or takes long breaks... bring bug spray, net, body suit, etc. |

From the parking area, go behind the ski building until you see the ski lift. Continue up the road that roughly follows the ski lift (a good workout!) and continue 0.3mi to the northern trailhead on your left.
Nice evening hike! Nobody else on the trails. I was sad I didn’t get up to the Whites this weekend given how great the weather was so I decided to make an obnoxiously long drive for a short hike after work today 🙃
There was virtually no mud on the northern branch! Everything had dried out nicely :) There were still some minor mud pits on the south brench though. Glad the Whites got a lot of sun and little rain the past several days so that the mud could dry a bit.
