bushwhack, snowmobile trails, unmaintained Dodge Road
Started up unmaintained Dodge Road to a minor height of land and a snowmobile trail. Started our bushwhack by following the snowmobile trail until it started heading too far west. Continued up through pretty clear woods to Thompson - South Peak. Jar was on first bump. After signing in, we headed toward the snowmobile trail that goes between Pollard and Thompson. Popped out and followed the trail to a point where we took a heading to Pollard. Managed to miss the wetter areas mentioned in previous posts but we were in the thick cedars a lot longer... Finally got through the cedars and made our way through clean woods, ultimately following old snowmobile trails to the high point, or so we thought: no jar?!? Remembered Amy's comment that there was a nice framed view of Ascutney near the high point so went a bit further, saw the view and the jar was on a bump just to the right! Signed in and took a heading toward the snowmobile trail in the Thompson/Pollard col, fewer cedars but a fairly large mossy boggy area before we popped out. Followed the snowmobile trails back to Dodge Road and our car. |
