| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The Appalachia parking lot was surprisingly not full at 9:05 AM when I rolled in. Cars were still parked roadside- most likely Madison Springs Hut guests. USFS Trailhead Stewards were also stationed at this trailhead during the day. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The only major crossing, along Valley Way, was easily rock hopped. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
The rough, sandpaper-like rocks of the Northern Presidentials could be hazardous to dogs' feet- I talked with at least a few people today who didn't take their dogs for that reason. |
| Bugs: |
Bad on Madison's summit, and even worse on Adams. They weren't biting, but they were more annoying than any biting bugs. Bring bug spray. |
| Lost and Found: |

| Comments: |
Aside from a small patch of snow on the Star Lake Trail, there was no snow or ice on this hike. The trails were mostly dry with some scattered patches of mud and wet ground/rock, particularly close to treeline. |
