Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of parking for few people there :)
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Some small rock hops; none of any consequence.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trails are well marked and easy to follow (white diamonds or triangles on all except Thumbs Down which had yellow markings). There are remnants of old trails and such though which would be easy to accidentally follow (mostly on Harriskat). The trail is in good shape. I trimmed back a few branches. There is one large obnoxious blowdown that you’ve got to step over on Thumbs Up. Another two easy stepovers later on a little closer to Thumbs Down that have been there awhile.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I think most would be fine.
Bugs
Bugs: No black flies but the mosquitos were out. Bug spray seemed to work. They were bad but not as bad as other recent hikes. The head net stayed off surprisingly
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found a glove likely from this winter hung on a tree on Harriskat Trail. I’d be happy to return it if it’s yours.

Comments
Comments: Nice easy loop. The easiest way to do the loop is ascending Harriskat due to less elevation gain. The view is fairly obscured by growth on Skatutakee but you can see towards the Pack Monadnocks, Monadnock, and Crotches Mountain. We all thought the view from Thumb was nicer; you overlook some cool ponds, nice view of Monadnock, and you can also see the Pack Monadknocks, and I believe what was Wachusett way in the distance (it looked too tall to be Wachusett but I don’t know what’s larger in that dirwction🤷‍♀️)

The mud pits are drying nicely on the trail. Most mud was not too bad and there wasn’t too mich of it.
