Dry Trail |

 | Recommended Equipment: |
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
None. |
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No regular maintenance occurs on this route as it's unofficial and located on private land but ... The footpath section is difficult to follow in places due to light use and blazes are faded and infrequent in areas. A few large blowdowns are blocking the footpath section about halfway up. Where the trail breaks out into the open just below the summit is marked with a cairn, but there are none after that, so make a mental note as to where you emerged on the ledges. |
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Sure, as long as they don't mind rough trails. |
 | Bugs: |
Mosquitoes down low, black flies up high, and a delicious combination of both in the middle. |
 | Lost and Found: |
Nothing. |

I hadn't been here since 2015 and had forgotten what a butt kicker Bayle Mountain Trail is. Steep, steep, steep. Fortunately everything was dry. Lots of slippery leaves made for a somewhat treacherous descent though. There's a small sign for the trail now where it leaves the snowmobile trail and the old red blazes on the rocks have been painted over. Parts of the route are pretty obscure and I had to hunt around several times.
Awesome views in every direction from the summit - what a gem this peak is, being situated just about in the center of the Ossipee ring dike. I looked, but couldn't locate the register, so I'm not sure if it's still there.
A very quiet day - I only encountered one other person who was out for their third area hike of the day. |
