Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings of consequence (those of Israel River at the bottom of Castle, the multitude on Castle Brook, and that of Cascade Brook on Israel Ridge Trail) were not rock-hoppable today, and were mostly waded in ankle to knee deep water. The cold felt good on the legs, especially at the end of the day.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Quite a few sticks laying about these trails (below treeline anyway). Several stepover or duckunder blowdowns on Castle Ravine, mostly below Roof Rock. Also several stepover and duckunder blowdowns on Israel Ridge below Emerald Trail, two of which lay directly in the trail. Some mud here and there, but not terrible overall.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Fairly bothersome at low elevation in the early afternoon, disappeared once above treeline in Castle Ravine, and basically stayed that way until we got out.

Comments
Comments: Ended up being a beautiful day above treeline in the northern Presidentials today, our crack o' noon start helped. Rocks slick below treeline from last nights rains, but things were mostly dry above treeline, with some notable exceptions. No snow to speak of until a patch just below Edmands Col on Castle Ravine Trail, then dealt with two snowfields on Edmands Col Cutoff (one which we crossed, the other was longer and steeper, so we rockwhacked around it), and another large one on Six Husbands to just below Gulfside. No other snow on the route. Cornice was a pain in the ankles after an already trying day. Ascended back up Gulfside to Israel Ridge, taking that out to Castle on the way down. Good to catch some above treeline rays, and not interact with another soul (though we saw/heard two groups from a distance)!
