Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 1, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: No problems. Poor, ol' Shem Valley Road had the usual bumps and ruts.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing significant. Streams mostly low.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Brushed about ½ mile from the Elwell junction back towards the beaver ponds. 14 drains, including several along the lower section of the Back 80. Three blowdowns removed; a few easy step-overs remain, not counting the large diameter, multi-trunk one where there’s a hasty re-route. That will improve as time permits. Trail still needs blazing. As mentioned many times by both me and the maintainer of the Elwell, both signs at the junction have bear damage and need to be replaced.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Not bad, even for a bug magnet such as I am.

Comments
Comments: Outer section of the Back 80 at AMC Cardigan

National Trails Day event along my adopted trail. Got a chance to see how the bog bridges we worked on at the end of April were faring -- pretty good. BBQ afterwards on the Cardigan Lodge back porch.

Future work: re-blazing, bog bridges in the approaches to the 93Z - 93Z Extension junction.

Three no-shows.
