Ned,Per, and I had a great hike today. While Ned pulled a sled to the Scaur Ridge trail, Per and I XC skied to it. It was fast this morning but by the time we headed back out the snow was pretty wet and slow like molasses. Nevertheless it was great to do half the hike on skis. We put on our snowshoes at the trail jct. and kept them on until we were back at Livermore Road. On the way up we packed down about two inches of new snow. The steep part up to the North peak was easy to do with snowshoes. On the return trip the warm sun started to melt the snow off the trees and it felt as if we were walking in a rain forest, with occasional ice junks coming down as well. The snow from the day before began to ball up on our snowshoes and they became quite heavy. Other than that it was a stellar day to be out today. |
