Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Neville Peak, NH
Trails
Trails: Tarleton Road, Neville Ridge Scout Foot Trail, Neville Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, May 27, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: At the Epsom Town Forest parking area at the end of Tarleton Road in Epsom by a gate. The final 0.25 mi. unmaintained section of this road is best for high clearance vehicles, but regular cars can get there with care. There's one minor washout and a rutted section to watch out for. Also be on the lookout for kids from the adjacent homes playing in the road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: NRSFT is well blazed in red (although some could use refreshing) and signed at the bottom; just a few minor stepover blowdowns. Neville Ridge Trail is only signed at the bottom, which I discovered when I got there. Otherwise, it is unmarked aside from one directional sign before the steeps. Recent-looking signage reflects the new (?) names of these trails since I was last here several years ago.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure.
Bugs
Bugs: Mosquitos and black flies. Dragonflies, where are you to clean up this mess?
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Broken glass and a bit of trash at the summit. :(

Comments
Comments: I had originally planned on an out and back along the NRSFT, but ended up doing a clockwise loop on a hunch and a bit of directional intuition. Both trails are similarly-named, but go to the same place. NRSFT is a proper hiking trail though and a much nicer route. NRT follows woods roads the whole way, and the ascent to the ridge is steep and very eroded.

From the gate, NRFST starts 0.4 mi. up the continuation of Tarleton Road and NRT is 0.1 mi. further. Both trails are signed at the bottom but not at the summit. Both trails fairly dry but NRT also had some mud and standing water due to erosion. There was also evidence of recent ATV traffic on this trail.

Excellent views north and northeast out to the Whites from the open, ledgy summit. Mt. Moosilauke was looking very ghostly in the haze. I heard a few other people out by Mill Pond during my descent, but I didn't see a single person. Not bad for Memorial Day. :)
