Trails
Trails: Hubbard Brook Trail, road walk, Mt. Kineo Trail, Donkey Hill Cutoff, Three Ponds Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, May 25, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: A section near the beginning of the forest road is washed out, so no access to the parking area. There is room for a few cars along the side at the beginning of the road, but there's a cabin there and I don't know how accommodating the owners will be when they are present. Once repaired, the lot will hold 6 or so cars.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Most were easy rock hops or step overs. There was one or two which required more planning or moving up or down stream to avoid wet feet. There were two areas where high water from beavers (in at least one of the two) which required a short bushwhack to get around. Both of those may require a permanent reroute in the near future.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One blowdown on Donkey Hill Cutoff which will require a saw or chainsaw. It's mid-trail, maybe closer to the Mt Kineo Trail side. The entire section of Three Ponds Trail, north of Donkey Hill Cutoff, as well as Mt Kineo Trail north of the height of land, can use significant freshening of blazes.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies are definitely out and a few have started to bite. Several ticks were picked up in the overgrown brush near the trailhead end of Three Ponds Trail.

Comments
Comments: These sections of Mt Kineo Trail, Three Ponds Trail, and Hubbard Brook Trail all appear to be lightly used. The forest is beginning to grow in on them and obscure the footpath in many places. This encroachment, combined with very faded blazes, makes navigation difficult at times. Other than the one noted blow down above, someone had recently cleared Three Ponds Trail of lots of winter obstruction and Mt Kineo Trail had no issues.
