Comments
Comments: The ledge areas were a mix of dry and wet surfaces that proved not to be slippery today. The steep ledges can be difficult under adverse conditions. Most of the snow was uphill of Quimby's Pillow (glacial erratic 3.6 miles in to hike). There was a narrow monorail that required good balance. The monorail averaged about a foot and a half to two feet in depth with a mostly solid surface. Some of the monorail was failing in the warming temperatures. Often there was bare surfaces to the side of the monorail. The snow/monorail was intermittent with stretches of bare/mud surfaces in between.
The wild flowers included the painted and red trilliums, hobblebush, Spring Beauty, and shadbush.
Gray Jays at the summit. Good views from the ledges and the summit.
Lots of hikers on the trails today. Had nice conversations with father/son from Derry and a couple from Tufts Univ.
