Beautiful sunny morning.Trail is wide open and easy to follow. Had 2 relatively easy Brook crossings. At times trail was wet and muddy. Remnants of monorail for a time, but easy enough to step around. Great place to stop at top for snacks/ lunch. Took time to relax and assess whether to continue on to trail heading to Zealand Hut. Decided to do the out and back , returning on Hale Brook trail. Big rock pile at summit. If you climb on top of rock pile and you are tall you can see views of ridge in distance. Better view on way down thru the trees and at the 1st Brook crossing (on way down from summit).
Would recommend hiking boots. We carried microspikes in our back pack but did not need them.
Walking cautiously it was 1.5 hours up and about the same down. A great 1/2 day/morning hike. |
