Followed unmaintained Croydon Turnpike which is a gravel snowmobile road about .4 miles. (Last night's rain and the rain we've been having for the past month has left it muddy in spots as were parts of the trail.) On the right we sited a faded orange tag on a tree and a faint trail. We followed the tagged trail, which also had orange paw print blazes as well, to the summit. Pretty easy to follow except at one blow down where the trail takes a left right after it. For the most part, just keep an eye out for the next tag or blaze and you won't lose your way. Near the summit there are bare and moss covered ledges which proved to be a tad slippery after last night's rainstorm! Just below the RHP there is a sign to the left for Snow Mountain (?) and a side trail to an amazing viewpoint equipped with chairs. The RHP is about 40' further in a pine tree to the left of the summit ledge. After taking some time to sit and enjoy the view, we headed back down the same way. BTW, the trail continues beyond the summit but we weren't sure where it headed... |
