Stoney Brook trail was a sidewalk, I bare booted all the way to c-m trail without post holing. The c-m trail going south was broken out pretty well. The c-m trail going north looked like it had only one person on it since the last snow and crust over. I switch to snowshoes at this point. It was pretty slow going, but it's much better now. All the cairn are showing on the ledges. It took me a little while to find the trail at the top of the ledges for the last .2 mile section. lower section of the ledges was pretty well snow covered, the upper section was covered with light drifting snow and hard crust that you could walk on without breaking.
The weather was off and on light drizzle at lower elevations, turned to light snow as soon as I hit the clouds at 3000'.
wore my snowshoes all the way back because the lower sections of stoney brook trail had softened significantly and I probably would have post holes.
I ran across a couple of moose post holing the trail on the way down, I yelled at them for post holing and told them to stop being so cheap and buy a set of snowshoes ... I don't think they listened };-) of all the time I spend hiking, that's the first time I've seen a moose.
