Comments
Comments: An interesting trek up to Bond and back.

Usual mix of dry and wet trail conditions for spring at lower elevations. Snow began between river crossings 2 and 3 on Bondcliff Trail - at 2800, NOT 3800 feet as reported a few days ago (was that a typo?). Monorail was mostly stable on the way up, getting softer and more unstable on our descent. Microspikes & poles were appreciated, but snowshoes would not really have been beneficial.

Signs below "Hillary Step" are just barely poking out of the snow. Above treeline, Bondcliff is entirely snow and ice free until you pop back into the woods going up Bond. There is one tricky little spot going up Bond where the trail is not obvious.

We met around 25 folks today, 75% of whom seemed incredulous that there was still snow in the mountains. Most had no traction or poles. A large group of 10 or 11 Canadians was attempting a Pemi Loop in very light attire and teeny-weeny running packs. We mentioned a lot of snow up high and were met with blank stares.

A big BOO to the group of 6 (?) that rode bikes past the Wilderness boundary in order to bag Bondcliff. Really uncool move and example you're setting for your kids.

We saw a moose out enjoying a morning stroll on lower Bondcliff Trail. :)
