Hancock Notch trail and Cedar brook trail had very mixed conditions including basically walking through a stream, unstable monorail, stable monorail, and a dryish trail. Bare bootable until halfway through Cedar brook trail where spikes would be helpful although I unwisely choose to bareboot the entire hike. We last minute decided to take the Arrow slide up as it looked awesome looming in front of us. The slide was very slick in many spots and the bushwhack sections were buried in snow. From the top of the slide we veered left where the Cairn is and straight up from there kind of veering to the right where we came out right at the outlook on North Hancock. The ridge was a mess of snow and snowshoes would have been very helpful. The way down South peak was a disaster with post holes buried under the fresh snow from Monday night, it was very slick as well. Only saw one other hiker and he had a dog with him. |
