 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Goose Pond Road is pretty solid. Long drive in (especially from the Goose Pond side) but other than your normal potholes it’s a lot better than many other dirt roads I’ve been on recently. No mud. Only thing to be wary of is that the little parking area right at Holts Ledge Trail is often muddy and has a big dip (we heard it scrapping our undercarriage). We opted to park a little further out at the larger parking area/turnaround. |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The crossing of Hewes Brook and the one or two small ones shortly thereafter were all no problem. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I didn’t find the trail hard to follow but my mother did. You may be wary if you are new to hiking and aren’t used to following somewhat obscure trails. It’s blazed in white for the AT but not very frequently and a lot of the blaze is old. Perhaps more importantly, the footbed isn’t well trodden and can be obscure. I don’t recall the southern section of this trail (from Three Mile Road) being like this though. Holts Ledge Trail on the other side is better blazed (and better travelled) too. This was mostly on the ascent though. The ridge was easier to follow.
There were some scattered blowdowns/learners throughout. The ones I recall could be easily taken care of with a handsaw. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
I think they’d be fine except for perhaps all the ticks! |
|
 | Bugs: |
I didn’t notice many flying insects but they annoyed my mom once or twice. What I DID notice was that my mother found a tick on her pant leg once we were back at the car, I found one on my leg while driving back (pretty sure they were both deer ticks), and I found a second on me while lying in bed last night... it wasn’t pretty gross. I’m glad we were wearing long pants!! |
