Red Bench, Ammonoosuc Lake
I'm posting this mainly to report a large landslide on the west shore of Ammonoosuc Lake, directly under the railroad. A few dozen yards of trail are obliterated (though it was easy to find the trail on the other side). However, it appears that the landslide may have destabilized the railroad bed, since a large volume of the small rocks holding the railroad ties were swept down in the landslide, and a few of the railroad ties are actually partly exposed at the bottom. This seems like something that should be fixed, or at least inspected, before the railroad starts carrying tourists. |
