This was the last section I needed to walk for the SNHG. Mostly dry trail with some areas of minor mud and standing water. This is a lovely walk through beautiful woods at mostly easy grades, but with two ascents and descents over minor ridges to keep things interesting. Great views from the observation tower at Carter Hill, though distant. Close by is Mt. Kearsarge, but also visible are Ragged Mountain, Mt. Cardigan, Mt. Moosilauke and Franconia Ridge.
One thing to note: If approaching from the south, the trail officially ends at a gate at the orchard. This gate may be closed (as it was today), but it is not locked. Please leave it in the state you found it, open or closed. |
