Nice quiet hike along the ledgy backside of the ridge from the ski area. There were several lookouts but the ridge spent most of the day in the clouds. I went as far as the open ledges to east of Old Top. I descended 100 feet or so of elevation following possibly an abandoned trail (old cut branches, faint treadway, and flattened cairns covered in moss) in hopes of looping around to the Balanced Rock Spur. Since I was ultimately heading away from my target and still 100 feet higher on slippery ledge I decided to call it and head back. I would have felt more comfortable exploring if I was headed up or it was a drier day. Back at the ski area I checked out some of the trails that I skied so often this past season. Very soft footing when not covered in ice and snow. Very little snow left near the lift and none on the hiking trail. It was great to share more snow free miles with Marlie.
