Comments
Comments: I wanted nothing to do with rotting monorails, soft snow, postholing, and water crossings, so this fit the bill. Cog was bare ground for 99% of the hike, with a couple stretches of snow, most of which could be avoided if you so chose. Once above treeline it was bare, with only a few random patches of snow. Had the summit of Washington to myself for about 20 minutes, so that was sweet. The undercast was awesome(summit was in the clear all morning), and the weather was amazing. There was literally no wind at the summit, and I lingered for about an hour. On the way to Jefferson the undercast broke up, the sun came out, and it got hot. The sun then went in and out for the rest of the day, but it stayed warm. I had the pleasure of meeting the Teal Goat and Deep End Dave at the summit of Jefferson; they had come up Caps Ridge and said it was bare bootable, if anyone is interested. Fantastic day above treeline, and the first bare boot hike in months; can't wait for warm weather. Saw quite a few people out, though less than I would have thought given the forecast.
