Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of room at the Basin although on entrance side less than in summer.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Smaller drainages down low open but can be jumped in snowshoes although I had to go up or down to do so in some cases. Main crossing still bridged but bare booters put some holes in it; a few more of them and it will be gone. Found downed tree just up from path to get across drainage on old trail near snowmobile path.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few open patches down low. Solid packed trail to Liberty. Between Liberty & Flume there are 4 duckunders and the snow was loose under breakable crust, but its broken now fairly well.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The mighty tough little dog loved the trail to and from Liberty. He just flew. A bit more work over to Flume but no problem; no icing. I let him rock hop across a few small drainages down low since icing wasn't going to be an issue.

Comments
Comments: This was Plan C, but after being stuck for nearly 30 minutes waiting for (I assume) an accident to be cleared in the notch, we took it. The snowshoeing was decent, the views non-existent and there was a chilly breeze on the peaks. I missed the old trail on the way in; used it on the way out. Met a nice guy on Liberty who came up Osseo, and then met a few more on Liberty Springs. Trail has a few postholes down low but right now it is in good shape; although it is vulnerable. Between Flume and Liberty snowshoes really a necessity. Pepper had a ball today. I had a lot more fun in February on these peaks but we had great companions then, sun for much of that hike and great snowshoeing conditions. Still it was great to be out on the trails.
