 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
This was a 2-day trail crew of five. All told we cleared and added about 20 drains between the lodge and the second beaver pond. They will be improved on a day with less severe weather. 16 blowdowns cleared, including two which appeared over the weekend. One (only one?) blowdown still under snow. One huge blowdown perhaps 1/4 mile beyond the 93Z was too dangerous to deal with; it will want someone very experienced with a chainsaw. We put in a short relocation flagged with surveyor's tape. Should another solution become reasonable, it will be easy to brush in. One more blowdown is a step-over, but we left it for lack of time. Sections where last fall's new blazes had been washed off were also flagged. Reblazing and hardening the approaches to the 93Z junction are this year's priorities, though if anyone wants to pull the newly sprouting hobblebush... |

This was part of the AMC-NH Chapter Spring Workshop, Intro to Trailwork. Credit to the students for dealing with biblically bad weather on Saturday: rain, sleet, mixed precip, hail, and snow. Temps around 40. *Lots* of moose evidence. One coyote scat, all hair. Can't wait for the lady slippers to bloom! |
