 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
plenty of parking mid-morning, but, lot filled up when I got down mid-afternoon. Noted East Pond Trailhead was not plowed - cars were pulling off into the soft snow to park at the entrance to that lot. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable) |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
had to pick a way across the larger crossing, but managed to keep boots dry |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
lots of stepovers and a few with side bypasses - I would say about a dozen. I pushed 1 down onto the trail that was really awkward, now it needs to be cut out. Ski Trail/Greeley Ponds Trail to Upper Greeley Pond trail marking confusing - lost the actual trail near the pond and ended up on the ski trail to edge of pond. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
many many dogs, not all happy to be there - one was being lifted up by his/her jacket out of each posthole |
|
 | Bugs: |
yes - there were bugs on the summit of the main peak, but they were not biting |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
saw some sunglasses on the trail but couldn't reach down as they were well below the monorail |

 | Comments: |
OK, I know, I was the only person in snowshoes. I put them on around 2800' and kept them on except for the chimney. Some of the postholes from the monorail were 3-4' deep - nice ankle-busting I didn't want to risk. Others seemed fine with their tiny packs and sneakers?????? ANYWAY, I was happy to have the main summit to myself - that never happens on this peak!!!! Summits were socked in late am, but they opened up for some nice views later. |
