Comments
Comments: There was a mix on the trail yesterday. From dry trail to wet trail to mud to ice/snow. Temps were pretty cold to start out the hike and we could see from the drive in that it has just recently snowed or was snowing on summit when we pulled in. So the monorail was fairly solid and stable for entire ascent. We bare booted up till right before Mount Surprise. From there on we used micro spikes. As we got closer to the top, it was clear that it had just snowed as the summit trees were coated with a thick coat of rime ice. Made for great scenery up on summit! So very much still winter conditions. We were lucky and opted to leave snowshoes in the car although most we saw on trail had them with them but I did not see anyone using them. It won't be long before the monorail becomes unstable with warmer temps.
