Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Most crossings were melt water run-off that are step overs. The crossing uphill from the junction with Peaked Mtn Connector was a rock hop as the bridge was disassembled.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Cut about a dozen trees and branches obstructing trail. There remains around three trees across the trail but these were easy to get by. There are short stretches of the Black Cap Connector where the blazes are scarce so care must be taken to stay on the trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs
Bugs
Bugs: Saw a couple of flying insects

Comments
Comments: I selected this hike because there are no significant water crossings and I expected no deep snow. The plan worked out. There were only short stretches of snow that were a half foot to a foot in depth. The remaining monorail was embedded in the snow and hard to detect. Fortunately the consequences of deviating from the monorail wasn't severe. There are some puddles that were rather easy to skirt around. Water was running down the trail in a section of the Black Cap Connector. There was plenty of room in the adjacent hardwood forest to avoid the run-off. There was some wet mud on the Black Pond Spur and the Black Cap Connector between the Black Cap trail and the Black Cap Spur. There was a lot of dry ledges at the summit of Black Cap. The views were limited by clouds. All-in-all this was a good hike during the transition season.
