Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of parking in non-fee trailhead lot off Clifford Brook Road - only 1 car there on the descent.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Significant, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: rock-hoppable but some that are normally dry were challenging - I fell down the sides of a bank on 1 of the larger crossings, completely swamped my boot, and had to try a couple jumps to get back up. Clifford Brook fork crossings to Waternomee Falls I did on the birch log - can hold on and jump on a piles of leaves at edge. Much of upper sections of trail are over a strong brook which has undermined the snow.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Moderate deadfall first mile. 2 larger blowdowns requiring routing off-trail to get around - these were about halfway up.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Might fall thru the undermined snow - I wouldn't recommend bringing a dog for a while.

Comments
Comments: This was rough... ANYWAY, not bad until about 2800' when I put on the snowshoes. Shortly thereafter, I potholed significantly (WITH snowshoes on) - had to test basically every step. No discernible blazes once the trail goes right and leaves the tractor road for the former firetower. No real monorail so everything seemed booby-trapped - just waiting to collapse. I had a couple big fall-throughs into the stream bed a couple feet below - one of them really required focus to free my snowshoe caught on a rock - I also really creamed my knee - OUCH - on a rock or something. Very difficult travel to the summit. There is a fir area where the trees are really close right before the summit - way was not easy to follow as there is a small blowdown there blocking the way. I might not recommend this for a few weeks until the snow melts - there is still 1-2' of snow that is very unstable.... no views from summit but the snow on the spruce trees was quite pretty!!!!
