Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No dry feet today! Waded all un-bridged crossings, knee deep in a couple instances. Numb feet all around!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A couple of stepovers on Gordon Path, as well as a couple on Cabin Trail. Whiten Brook had a few crowns down in the trail, and some big stepovers, with areas of deep standing water (where there wasn't snow). Many sections of running water on Bickford, we tried to divert some of it off the trail in spots where we could.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Too cold and breezy for them today.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A single MSR Denali snowshoe on lower Cabin Trail, maybe 0.1-0.2 above the junction with Big Rock Cave Trail, left hanging in view where we found it.

Comments
Comments: Mixed conditions today, most all of them wet and cold, and that was just the ground. Off and on rain showers here and there, breezy a few times too. XC ski grooming remnants on Gordon Path were stable, and we were delighted to find Cabin Trail snow free... until about 2050'. Whiten Brook Trail continued with the snow cover (6" to 2' in spots), and with few exceptions, stayed that way until it merged with Old Paugus Trail. Snowshoes would not have helped one bit, and would have been more a hindrance than anything, punchy at best, in no way firm. Snow finally disappeared around the major crossing on lower Old Paugus Trail, and we only ran in to one other bit at the height of land on Bickford. While Whiten Brook was a pain, the overall hike was excellent!
