Some of the toughest conditions I’ve seen on Monadnock.
Good news: snow and ice is gone (at least below 2000’).
Bad news: holy hell, is there a lot of water everywhere. Every trail was some combination of standing water, a literal stream, or a literal river. Birchtoft and Cascade Link especially. I was expecting it to be wet and muddy, but I didn’t anticipate mid-foot to ankle-deep water almost everywhere.
Given the forecast for this week, I wouldn’t expect trail conditions to improve much anytime soon. The trails really could use a few days of warm sun and no foot traffic, but given that it’s Monadnock, it’s a safe bet that won’t happen.
