Comments
Comments: Great day for Mount Garfield. Gale River Road was mud free and smooth sailing all the way to the trailhead. Garfield Trail was muddy, but not bad. The two water crossings were not an issue and rock hopping made it easy. After 3000 feet elevation the snow was covering the trail. Monorail wasn't much help, but there were patches that were solid enough to work with. One stretch of the monorail was awful and you couldn't avoid postholing. Garfield Ridge Trail was in great condition and the summit was bare rock. Microspikes could have been worn on the way down, but the snow was soft enough and wasn't icy and we were able to bare boot it with plenty of traction. Snowshoes are your call.
