Ascended the ski trails on snowshoes (snowcat traffic had made the snow very soft in places), then kept them on all the way to the summit and back to the top of the ski area. The Sosman Trail from the ski area to the first Mt. Tecumseh Trail junction had vague monorail that was very unstable, even with snowshoes. Snow was a steady 3 feet deep, so this would be ridiculous to try without snowshoes.
From the first junction to the summit had much more stable monorail (very prominent at this point too), with only a couple of short bare spots. Snowpack is up to 6 feet in a few places. Some really nasty bareboot postholes in a few places.
Back to the ski area, I put on skis and was able to ski from the top of the T-Bar to the bottom of the Magic Carpet on continuous snow (T-Bar line to Grimes Way to And Tyler Too to Siegel Street to Old Tecumseh to Lower Periphery). The connection from the T-Bar to Grimes will probably be toast tomorrow. The top of the quad is all melted and the quad lift line is patchy. Old Tecumseh is still continuous all the way up and it looks like Periphery to Boneyard could be too. Possibly a few Green Peak Trails (Clean Shaven and Chandlers). |
