I had heard about this place for years but had never been, so late this afternoon I paid a visit. A really cool area of ledges surrounding the falls, which are flowing very strong right now. I also carefully descended along the side of the falls to the bottom. Use caution here as the ledges are wet.
The walk along the road still has enough ice to warrant light traction. A used pair of spikes is fine. Tomorrow's warm weather will put a big dent in it. Otherwise, the road was muddy with one area of standing water which is easily bypassed.
It's my understanding you used to be able to drive to the falls along the other end of Little Niagara Road from Hills Corner, a short distance west of the Blue Job Mountain trailhead, but the road has been closed to vehicles by the town due to the falls becoming a party spot. I believe you can still walk in that way, but it's longer and I'm not sure about parking. The approach I used was very short, only 0.4 mi. |
