Perfect day! Sunny, a little chilly and windy at the start but the wind soon died down. The road walk from the parking lot to Limerick Road was frigid as into the wind but the rest of the hike was wooded and protected. Soon after we passed the gate on Limerick, we were walking on hard, crusty snow most of the way. No ice and no need for any traction, even on the hike back down. Continued up the road, took the right fork and passed the house and outbuildings at a height of land. We saw the cairn on the right shortly after but, unlike our predecessors, we decided to continue on the road: Gaia was showing a dotted line to the summit. The road went downhill a bit to a hairpin turn, with an opening in the woods/trail? straight ahead. Passed a cool wood stove in great shape on the left shortly after. The trail disappeared so we took a heading and started our bushwhack through clear woods to the summit, crossing an old stone wall just before the top. Saw something orange which turned out to be a No Hunting sign at the height of land. Looked everywhere for a jar, but no success, so we hung one, register included, next to that sign (BYOJ!). Rather than looking for the trail others had taken, we just followed our footsteps back down to the road and on to the car. |
