 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Three Ponds Rd was a bit muddy but nothing too bad. Just don’t go too fast. Only car there at 10:30. Others came came and left as I got back around 1:30 and departed on Center Hanover Trail around 2:15. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes, Slush, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
I think the only one was near the lodge. No more snow/ice bridge but I was able to rock hop partially submerging my boots. Those without a bit of experience might not be crazy about doing it. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Moose Mtn trail blazed in white for the AT of course. Blaze sometimes faded but still easy to follow. Fred Harris and Nat Thompson were blazed in light blue and were also easy to follow. Lots of small brush from this winters wind storms that are on the trail but all in all good trail conditions. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw some dog poop unfortunately. No dogs today but assuming they could handle the ice I imagine they’d do fine. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Some flying insects. I may have got bitten by some black flies. I felt itchy the whole hike... |
|
 | Lost and Found: |

 | Comments: |
Up Moose Mtn trail to its southern peak and down to Old Wolfeboro Rd, then back up, bagged the “true summit†just a couple yards off trail marked by a very small cairn, then Nat Thompson and Fred Harris Trail on the way down. Snowshoes should have ideally been used from the summit of the south peak down to Old Wolfeboro road but I was too lazy to throw them on for such a short distance. A little bit of postholing already existed and I contributed a little bit to the minor problem. After today’s rain and the rain coming tomorrow, you might as well just leave the snowshoes in the car. Very icy though and microspikes at least are required.
Nice views of Cardigan, Kearsage, and Sunapee from the ledges. Started off very cloudy but got sunnier when I got to the top. Made for a very nice hike :) |
