Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: I broke through some ice near the edge of the water while I was trying to cross. That ended the hike. Watch where you step and if you have longer legs than me you may be o.k. But on the other hand, the warmer weather is probably going to make the water crossings more challenging.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Good! Nice new blazes! Thanks.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Should be fine, we saw one enjoying the hike.
Bugs
Bugs: snow fleas and something that looked like those big mosquitos that don't bite.

Comments
Comments: Monorail is stable but snow is very deep on either side. I dropped into a posthole with at least a couple feet of space beneath my foot. Didn't use our traction, but you should bring it just in case the fluxuating temps change the snow surface. Stream is pretty during shoulder season - nice ice formations. Hike was short due to slipping in, but preparation paid off - rain pants prevented 80% of my hiking pants from getting drenched. Boots were soaked - changed into dry socks and put bags on my feet (didn't really work that well). Dry clothes to change into back at the car. Wasn't too cold a day, so no big disaster.
