| Comments: |
Warm day on Kinsman Ridge, mostly hard packed snow with patches of ice in some of the steeper sections. All in all, trails in pretty good shape, only postholes were alongside the trail and not directly in the monorail. Wore spikes until the steeps on Fishin' Jimmy, then snowshoes through until South Kinsman and back. Switched back to spikes before descending the steeps. Good amount of melting and sticky snow with the temps today - 37 deg F at S Kinsman summit ~1pm, 46 deg F in woods alongside Lonesome Lake around 2:45pm. Lots of traffic on the trails, most people carrying snowshoes but relatively few actually wearing them and opting to stick with spikes instead. For me, I had them so I used them, and they definitely helped on the the steep ascent for traction - they weren't needed for flotation. |
